That split is the right call, and we install both, usually in the same job and on the same schedule. The right rooms
South Florida went hard-surface years ago and it isn’t going back. Tile and plank make sense for a climate with sand, humidity and pool traffic. But there are rooms where a hard floor is just louder and colder than it needs to be.
Bedrooms are the obvious one. Nobody misses the sound of plank underfoot at six in the morning. Stairs are the other, because carpeted stairs are quieter, warmer and less slippery than wood or tile ones. Closets, home offices and media rooms round it out, and carpet in a media room does more for the sound of a space than most of what people spend money on.
Carpet is also the least expensive way to change how a room feels, and it installs quickly. Most of our carpet work rides along with a vinyl plank job through the living areas.
The choices
Four decisions, and the one people skip is the one they feel every day.
Nylon is the durable one, and it’s what we’d point you to for stairs and hallways where traffic concentrates. Polyester is softer underfoot and generally costs less, which makes it a strong bedroom carpet. Triexta sits between them and cleans well. Each has a place, and the right answer depends on the room and who walks through it.
Plush reads formal and shows footprints. Textured and frieze hide traffic patterns, which is why they end up in most family homes. Loop and patterned carpets bring texture and are excellent on stairs, with the caveat that a loop pile and a dog’s nails are not friends.
The part nobody shops for and everybody feels. Pad density determines how the carpet walks, how long it wears and how it sounds. An expensive carpet over a cheap pad feels worse and dies faster than a moderate carpet over a good one. We’ll price the pad honestly and explain what you’re getting.
Carpet changes color depending on the light it’s sitting in. That’s not a cliché, it’s how pile works, and it’s more pronounced down here where the light is bright and comes in at an angle for most of the day. Narrow it down, then look at your shortlist in the actual room at the time of day you use it, before anything is ordered.
Worth knowing
Most of our carpet work comes attached to a larger job: plank through the living areas, carpet in the bedrooms, one crew, one schedule, one price. You’re choosing both in the same appointment and deciding how they’ll meet at the doorway.
Where the vinyl stops and the carpet starts is a line you’ll walk over several times a day for years. It is worth thinking about while somebody is standing in the room with you, rather than on install day.
It applies to the job overall. Carpeting two bedrooms as part of a whole-home floor replacement is straightforward. Carpeting one small bedroom on its own generally isn’t a job we can send someone out for.
Install day
Carpet is one of the faster installs we do.
The old carpet and pad come up, and the old tack strip usually comes with them. Debris goes out with the crew. On a concrete slab the tack strip gets fastened down, the pad gets laid and seamed, and then the carpet goes over it.
The part that matters most is the stretch. Carpet has to be power-stretched properly across the room, not just kicked into place at the edges. An under-stretched carpet develops ripples and wrinkles within a year or two, and once it does the only fix is pulling it up and re-stretching it. This is the single most common carpet failure, and it is entirely an installation issue rather than a product one.
Seams get planned so they fall away from the doorway and out of the main sightline. Transitions get set where the carpet meets tile or plank. A couple of bedrooms is usually a single day. One thing worth knowing about condos: carpet is the one flooring choice that almost never runs into a building’s sound rules, because carpet and pad are already the acoustic baseline those rules are written against. If your building has been difficult about hard flooring, carpet in the bedrooms is the path of least resistance.

Ask us at the estimate. It depends on the rooms and what’s in them, and the person who comes out will give you a straight answer on site. Emptying closets and moving small items and breakables ahead of time always helps.
Not in a conditioned house. Bedrooms and closets stay dry. What you don’t want is carpet in a room that takes water, and we’d steer you to vinyl there anyway.
Put real money into the pad. It changes how the carpet feels and how long it lasts more than most people expect.
